Flight Outfitters Annual “Pilot Your Own Adventure” Contest

The Flight Outfitters “Pilot Your Own Adventure” contest is an annual writing competition that partners with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to bring the aviation community together for a fun-filled event. For the past three years, Flight Outfitters has rewarded the author of the winning aviation story with the opportunity to stay in the Flight Outfitters Adventure Camper in a preferred spot at Airventure. The winner also receives VIP access to the show and a prize pack of Flight Outfitters bags, apparel, and gear. 

This year, Flight Outfitters and EAA are doing something different. Instead of rewarding an individual, they are giving back to the EAA community by using a lottery system to reward one active and deserving EAA chapter. The chapters already entered to win were informed by email from EAA on April 5th. The goal is to show appreciation to those who help make Airventure the extended family reunion that it is each year within the General Aviation and EAA communities.

The EAA, based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, embodies the Spirit of Aviation through the world’s most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts. EAA’s members and 900 local chapters enjoy the fun and camaraderie of sharing their passion for flying, building and restoring recreational aircraft. At EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2024, one selected chapter will have the opportunity to participate in the Flight Outfitters Pilot Your Own Adventure program. This includes two EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2024 weekly tickets, the opportunity for an all-inclusive campsite, including the use of the Flight Outfitters camper in EAA’s Camp Scholler for two people and a vehicle.

The chapter may extend the camping opportunity to a member of their chapter, use it as a fundraiser to help support chapter expenses, or share it as they see appropriate. In addition to the camping experience, the chapter will receive Flight Outfitters merchandise to be used as seems appropriate, possibly as a fundraiser for the chapter, chapter member appreciation, or other.

EAA chapters with the highest level of programming and engagement identified through the EAA Chapter Recognition program are automatically entered to participate in the Flight Outfitters Pilot Your Own Adventure program during EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2024. No entry is required, as EAA has already communicated to the more than 200 qualifying chapters. The winning chapter will be selected at random by April 30, 2024.

Local EAA chapters are involved in a variety of social, aviation, and educational activities, including Young Eagles rallies, fly-ins, aircraft building seminars, youth aviation programs and more. There are several types of EAA chapters, including traditional EAA chapters, Vintage Aircraft Association chapters, Ultralight chapters, International Aerobatic Club chapters, and Warbirds of America squadrons. 

In summary, Flight Outfitters and EAA are coming together once again with EAA to bring the aviation community an exciting opportunity to participate in the Flight Outfitters Pilot Your Own Adventure program. This year, one EAA chapter will be rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the EAA community. Whether it’s used as a fundraiser or for chapter member appreciation, the winning chapter will have the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled, all-inclusive camping experience at EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2024.
